Description
The St. Vincent Evansville & University of Evansville Neurologic Residency Program is the first neurologic residency program for physical therapists in Indiana, a collaboration between the sponsoring organizations of Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, PT Solutions and the University of Evansville. Our program’s mission is to develop exceptional, passionate and persevering physical therapists dedicated to excellent care of the body, mind and spirit of individuals served. It is our vision that residents will serve as leaders in the field of neurologic physical therapy, advancing the profession by facilitating the translation of evidence to clinical practice using measurement as a guide to the systematic application and assessment of interventions. We strive to create a supported learning environment that encourages lifelong professional growth beginning with the residency and continuing throughout the entire career in the areas of patient care, teaching, mentoring, research, and community engagement and outreach. Beginning in late August, the 12-month program has five main components: clinical practice, didactic work, teaching, community service and research. The resident will engage in clinical practice in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient rehabilitation. The resident will serve as an adjunct faculty member in the Doctoral Physical Therapy Program at the University of Evansville. Additionally, the resident will serve as a mentor and clinical supervisor to the DPT-student run group exercise class “”ACErcise”” for individuals living in the community with neurologic conditions. Finally, the resident will be heavily involved with ongoing research and efforts to translate current evidence to clinical practice.
