Residency Description: Our 14-month program is comprised of three clinical rotations that will meld both clinical and academic partners in the University of Maryland (UM) System. The initial phase of our residency will occur at the UM Medical Center – Downtown Campus. This phase will encompass acute care experiences in the neuromuscular practice domain where residents will manage a variety of patients with acute neurologic diagnoses at a Primary Adult Resource Center (PARC)-designated facility for trauma and neurotrauma. The second phase of the residency program will be at the UM Rehabilitation & Orthopedic Institute where residents will have clinical experiences on diagnostic-specific units with patients undergoing inpatient rehabilitation following stroke, traumatic and other acquired brain injury, and spinal cord injury. Residents will also have clinical experiences with patients in a neurologic outpatient setting while participating in clinical practice learning experiences unique to neurological diagnoses including movement disorder clinic, neuromuscular disease clinic, peripheral neuropathy clinic, neuro-ophthalmology clinic, multiple sclerosis clinic, concussion clinic, inpatient and outpatient seating clinics, spinal cord injury clinics, Maryland young stroke clinic, spasticity clinic, and neurosurgical observations. The final phase of the residency program will be at the UM Medical Center – Midtown Campus and Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital. This phase of the program will return residents to an urban acute medical facility to provide additional acute medical experiences and additional experiences with pediatric patients with neurological diagnoses. Additional opportunities for participation in community geriatric risk screenings and adapted sports programs will be provided to residents.
